At ECTRA we have designed the 2012 Series Roping as a Handicap Roping with each roper assigned a number which relates to his/her roping ability . The number system starts at 1 and rises to the more experienced roper up to 10. With your partners number added to your number this creates your team number. This system is being applied so all teams can be competitive and have a chance at the great cash prizes on offer.
The series roping is a 4 steer average #14 Handicap roping. If your team number is a #14, your recorded average time is what it is. If your team number is above a #14 you will have 1.5 seconds added to your average time for each team number above #14. Likewise if your team number is below #14 you will receive a 1.5 seconds off your average for each team number below #14.
Example:
#15 team 40 seconds becomes 41.5 seconds
#14 team 40 seconds remains 40 seconds
#13 team 40 seconds becomes 38.5 seconds
#12 team 40 seconds becomes 37 seconds
#11 team 40 seconds becomes 35.5 seconds
As well as the handicap system in place we also have a #10 or under incentive and an all girl roping within the main 4 steer average.
All ropers can enter 5 times either end.
The series will run from 4th February through to 27th October culminating in our finals in mid November. At each roping, including the finals, points will be allocated for the first 10 positions. April 28th & 29th will be rounds number 4 & 5 this weekend has been labelled our 2012 Winter Classic.
November 16th, 17th and 18th will be our National Finals with the champions of this roping crowned The Australian ECTRA Champions. The Champions will each receive A Champion Gist Buckle, Champion Trophy Saddle , set of GIST Spurs, a GIST rope knife and $5000.00 in CASH per man.
The only way to qualify for the finals is to participate in 4 or more of our series ropings.
Each series roping has $2000.00 added money and entries are $60.00/man plus GST with $40.00 added back.
At each series roping there will also be a 3 head Styeer Wrestling, 3 head Breakaway, Junior Barrel Race and a Ladies Barrel Race The Breakaway will also be handicapped by numbers with .5 seconds off the average for each number differential from the highest competing roper classification. The entry fee is $100.00 plus GST with $75.00 added back for the Breakaway and Steer Wrestling $60.00 plus GST with $50.00 added back for the Ladies Barrel Race and $15.00 for the Junior Barrel Race with $15.00 added back.
